NATIONAL WOMENS MONTH
Women’s Month is a time to reflect on the courage of women in past generations and to celebrate how their efforts and bravery afforded women the opportunities and freedoms they have today.
The 2024 National Women’s Month aims to showcase achievements for women and girls, analyse measures toward gender equality, and anticipate initiatives that must be made to ensure development in women’s empowerment.
NATIONAL WOMENS DAY
On 9 August 1956, about 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against legislation aimed at tightening the apartheid government’s control over the movement of Black women in urban areas.
For 2024, the theme for Women’s Month 2024 in South Africa is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, which aims to recognise women who are working to build a more sustainable future. The South African Optometric Association pays tribute to those women who are regarded as trailblazers, having served the SAOA in the capacity of President.
